Manager Monthly Responsibilities (MP & Reporting)

18.0      Create Manager Profiles (MPs)

18.1 MPs are built by managers to be used on the road while the computer is playing your team.
18.2
MPs are due out by the first of the month.
18.3 MPs are to be placed in the team’s folder on the Yahoo site.
18.4 MPs are to be series specific so the opposing manager does not need to do anything in order to play the series. i.e., the home manager should just load your profile and have it run with the computer manager.
18.5 The active team roster will be 25 players for each series. The 25 players may vary from series to series within the month.
18.6 The active rosters will be expanded up to 35 ML players during the last month of play. A team cannot use more than 35 players over the course of the last month.

Top of page

19.0      MP Rotation Instructions

19.1 You must set your rotation for each specific series that you're playing.
19.2 MP Steps:

  • Assign pitchers to the Starter section
  • Set Usage to Strict. (You can change this but most use Strict)
  • Set Rotation Size and Next Starter
  • e.g., If Sabathia is your #4 Starter you would need to place him in the #1 spot if he is pitching game #1 of that series. This may also be accomplished by adjusting the # in the “Next Starter” box to 4. This is found under Pitching Tab when you create your MPs.

Top of page

20.0      Lineups:

20.1 Each manager is responsible for creating lineups for each series.
20.2 Lineups should be created for games against a LHP and RHP (with and without DH when needed).

Top of page

21.0      Farming Players

21.1 All players not on your 25 man active roster should be farmed.
21.2 You should also farm players who you don’t want to appear in a road series. i.e., low usage.
21.3 Home Managers should never farm players for his opponents unless specifically asked to in the special instructions.
21.4 Once rotations are setup in the MP the computer will automatically farm other starters for the series.

Top of page

22.0      Special Instructions

22.1 Managers may submit special instructions for a series.
22.2
Special instructions may include things such as farming players after appearing in one game, after so many AB’s, etc.
22.3 Home managers are not allowed to modify the road team players during the game.

Top of page

23.0      Saving and Naming Manager Profiles

23.1 MPs should be named in a way so the home manager clearly knows which MP to download that month. Try not to use Yankees MP.
23.2 A manager profile may be team specific (i.e., June Team1 MP vs. Team 2) or generically used for all away opponents.(i.e., June Yankees MP vs. All Teams)

Top of page

24.0      Monthly Rotation

24.1 Your complete rotation must be posted in Yahoo along with your MP.
24.2 This rotation can be any digital format and must include your complete rotation from the beginning of the season up to and including the entire current month. i.e., If you're playing June games the rotation should be from April through to June. i.e., all games in one file
24.3 Some teams like creating their entire season rotation, which can also be posted.
24.4 Please note: While playing your monthly games you can alter your home rotation. SP’s must still have three days rest between starts. An updated rotation should be posted on Yahoo.

Top of page

25.0      Playing your Home Games

25.1 Managers will play their own home games using the MP that their opponent sends them at the beginning of each month.
25.2     There is a short grace period between the posting of the monthly database and the playing of actual games. Games should not be played until the 25th of each month.
25.3 The home manager has the responsibility of making sure the proper road MP is loaded before playing their games.
One penalty point will be issued for the road MP not being loaded.
25.4 Managers should let the computer handle the SP’s and lineups as defined by the road team MP.
25.5 There is nothing to prevent two managers agreeing to play head to head (either using net play or face to face).
25.6 Player usage should be reset at the beginning of each series.
25.7 All special instructions must be executed before the game is started, since no in-game changes are allowed.
25.8 The commissioner will simulate any series computer vs. computer when the home team uses the wrong road MP.

Top of page

26.0      Submitting your Monthly Results (Reporting)

26.1 The deadline for sending in monthly results is the third Friday of every month.
26.2 Final end of the month statistics should be exported and placed in your team folder on the Yahoo Groups website.
26.3 Try using the current month and your team in the name.  i.e., YankeesJulyResults.zip
26.4 You do not need to re-post your rotation unless changes were made during the month.

Top of page

27.0      Monthly Statistics

27.1 The commissioner will be responsible for the following:

  • Import teams monthly results.
  • Contact managers when import errors occur.
  • Issue penalty points for lateness, errors and over usage.
  • Process trades and FA requests.

Top of page

 Player Usage

28.1 Position players are limited to 110% of plate appearances (this is how the game measures usage, listed on the far right of the player profile).
28.2 Players with less than 500 plate appearances may only be used up to 200% of their plate appearances against each side. (Left/Right)  This is intended to apply to switch hitters as well.
28.3 Exception: Players with a .230 batting average or lower may be used to a maximum of 200% but are still limited to 200% of their plate appearances against each side (Left/Right).

Top of page

29.0      Starting Pitchers

29.1 Only pitchers with a rating of starter may start.
29.2 Starting pitchers may be used 110% of their GS up to a limit of 35 rounding up or down as appropriate. i.e., 31.5 would equal 32 GS
29.3 Exception: if a pitcher has more than 35 starts in real life he may be used for that number of starts in the current BYOF season.

Top of page

30.0      Relief Pitchers

30.1 Relief pitchers are restricted to 110% of batters faced.
30.2
Starting pitchers can pitch in relief. Once that happens they fall under the swingman usage rules.
30.3 Note: a starting pitcher does not need to have a DMB assigned relief rating to be considered a swingman in the BYOF. Any starting pitcher that is used in relief is considered a swingman.

Top of page

31.0      Swingmen

31.1 Swingmen are defined as players who both start and relieve during the BYOF season.
31.2 Swingmen are limited to both 110% of batters faced and 110% of games started.

Top of page

32.0      Pitchers Usage Exceptions

32.1 Starting Pitchers with an ERA greater than 5.50 may double their games started up to a limit of 35.
32.2 Relief Pitchers with an ERA is greater than 5.50 may used up to 200% of their batters faced.
32.3 Swingmen with an ERA greater than 5.50 may double their games started up to a limit of 35 and limited to 200% of their batters faced.

Top of page

Player Over Usage Penalties

33.1 Penalize any player under the following criteria:

  • Position Players whose usage is over 110% of plate appearances.
  • Position Players who exceeds the 200% usage limits vs. RHP/LHP (200% is only for players with less than 500 PA).
  • Starting pitchers that go over 110% of games started (max of 35 GS)
  • Relief pitchers that go over 110% of batters faced.
  • Swingman that goes over either 110% GS or 110% batters faced.
  • Any batter or pitcher exceeding “exceptions” to usage.

33.2 For every two players that are over used you lose your highest available draft pick at the time of the infraction.
33.3 The first pick lost will be the ML pick and the second pick lost will be a MiL pick.
33.4 The lost pick will be replaced in the next round at the same spot
33.5 Overused players must be farmed immediately for the rest of the season.
33.6 Overused players are not eligible for the postseason.
33.7 Overused players are not eligible to be claimed as FA’s.

Top of page

34.0      Over Usage Penalties General Comments

34.1 Since all overused players must be farmed after going over 110% -- any manager caught deliberately using a player beyond 110% will lose their highest ML draft pick. i.e., Jones is at 111% at the end of June and is used in any remaining months.
34.2 Managers should plan their usage for 100% and use the remaining 10% as a safety net.
34.3 If you run your players to the maximum then you run the risk of over using that player. i.e., extra inning games or manager mistake
34.4 Over usage is not disputable as it’s the manager’s responsibility.

Top of page

35.0      Common Over Usage Mistakes

35.1 When acquiring FA’s or trading for players you must watch for players combined usage/stats. When a player switches leagues DMB only shows the new league stats. Please view sample screen shot
35.2 Not setting up your MP correctly, i.e., SP’s or not farming players. You can also define positions players to not pinch hit vs. one side.
35.3 Watch players with a low number of PA’s against one side. i.e., 20 AB’s vs. LHP
35.4 Monitor road results since some over usage is due to home manager using the wrong road MP.
35.5 Please report these errors to the commissioner to prevent over usage penalties.

Top of page

36.0      Losing Draft Picks Due to Penalties

36.1 Losing draft picks will alternate between the highest ML pick and the highest MiL pick. If more picks are needed it goes back to the ML draft, etc.
36.2 If a team leaves the league these draft pick penalties are waived for the new manager.

39.2 There will be four rounds of postseason including the two division winners and the four wild card teams with the best records from the other 10 teams.
39.3 The four rounds are the Wildcard Series, Division Series, League Championship Series and the World Series
39.4 The Wildcard Series will have the four wildcard (WC) teams play each other with the winners advancing to the Division Series. The WC team with the best record will play the WC team with the worst record. The other two WC teams will play each other.
39.5 The Division Series will have the division winner with best record plays the WC winner with the worst record, the other division winner would play the other WC team.
39.6 The remaining matchups will pit the team with the best overall record against the team with the worst overall record.
39.7All series will be a best of seven in a 2-3-2 format.
39.8 One day off will be scheduled after games 2,5 and 7
39.9 Home field advantage will go to the division winners and tie breakers will be used for the any other series.

65.0      Final Thoughts

65.1 BYOF encourages managers to send in suggestions to the league committee throughout the year.
65.2 The league committee will review proposed rule changes and comments from managers.
65.3 From time to time unique situations occur which the constitution does not cover or an interpretation of the constitution is required. In these cases it will be at the sole discretion of the commissioner.
65.4 BYOF recognizes that from time to time there are circumstances (Computer, vacation, work and personal problems) that prevent a manager from filing on time. It is the manager’s responsibility to notify the league office if there is a problem or a foreseeable problem.
65.5 BYOF is for everyone’s enjoyment. If you have a problem let the league committee know immediately and we will do our best to work with you so you do not incur penalties. A lack of consideration to others, by not communicating your problems will be viewed unfavorably.
65.6 In order to have a successful organization BYOF encourages our members to interact with one another. Anyone can set up a season at home and play the games, but by joining a league you're committing yourself to sharing your experiences with others that share your passion for this hobby. Now go out there, have fun and Build Your Own Franchise.

Thank you the BYOF league committee.
